Classical guitars are one of the oldest and most famous stringed musical instruments, characterized by a soft, deep and balanced tone. It is the main instrument in classical music and is often used in both solo performances and chamber groups. The sound of the classical guitar is very diverse, making it perfect for both lyrical and technical compositions.
Components and construction
This type of a guitar is differs from an acoustic guitar in its construction and materials used. Main components:
Body: The body of a classical guitar is usually made of different types of wood, such as spruce (top plate) and mahogany or rosewood (back and sides). The body is larger and thicker than other types of guitars, so it produces a deep, full and resonant sound.
Strings: This type of a guitar traditionally has six strings, which are made of nylon or synthetic materials. Compared to steel strings, nylon strings produce a softer, warmer sound.
Guitar Neck: The neck of a classical guitar is wider than that of other guitars, which makes it easier to perform the complex finger movements and chords that are characteristic of classical music performance.
